When Leslie began practicing mindfulness in 1993, she discovered that her stressors did not change, but she was better able to deal with them. And she felt better!

After being a student in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course at the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School in 1998, she found the practices so useful and practical that she applied for the teaching internship. Since completing the teacher training, she has continued to study and train at the Center for Mindfulness (CFM) since 2000, including the 92-hour teacher development intensive. She has been on the faculty of the Center for Mindfulness since January 2015, teaching in Worcester and West Hartford at Copper Beech Institute.

As a board certified physician assistant, she has worked in rehabilitation medicine, as well as orthopedics, neurosurgery, and occupational medicine over a 25 year career. Leslie is also a Massachusetts certified secondary teacher.

She opened the Mindful Awareness Practice Center (MAP Center) in April 2009 and began teaching mindfulness full time.

In 2010, Leslie accepted appointment as an adjunct professor at Bay Path University to teach Stress Management, which is a mindfulness-based contemplative course. She served on the advisory board for the Bay Path Physician Assistant program, and teaches mindfulness and stress reduction to its physician assistant students. Leslie was invited to create another mindfulness-based course for the University after students favorably reviewed Stress Management. After completing professional training in Mindfulness-based eating awareness training (MB-EAT), she developed curricula and teaches Mindful Eating as an online course for the University. In Spring 2013, she began teaching a meditation course for undergraduates. Being invited as sustaining faculty in Bay Path’s 2014 Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) “Own Your Story”, allowed for learning and connection with students around the world.

In addition to the adults she teaches in the 8-week MBSR program, Leslie has taught mindful awareness to students at Longmeadow High School, Wolf Swamp, Center and Blueberry Hill Elementary Schools, and Glenbrook Middle School – all in Longmeadow, MA. At Heartsong Yoga in East Longmeadow, MA, she taught teen stress reduction programs, as well as adult meditation classes. The Springfield JCC and the Springfield Public Library have offered teen mindfulness programs which she facilitated. Longmeadow Summer Enrichment featured a teen mindfulness course. These courses are supported by her training in the Mindful Schools Curriculum for elementary students, as well in .b, the Mindfulness in Schools curriculum for adolescents.

In 2012 and 2014, Leslie co-taught mindfulness practice to groups of elementary school teachers and staff in Northampton, MA through a community grant. This multi-phase project’s goal is to offer mindfulness to the entire Northampton school district. In Spring of 2013, she taught eight weeks of mindfulness practice to kindergarten through fourth graders using the Mindful Schools model.

She offered public talks at Storrs Library, Western New England University (sponsored by Glenmeadow), and has facilitated professional development workshops for the Belchertown Schools, Longmeadow Public Schools, Northampton Public Schools, Hampshire Regional Schools, and The Western Massachusetts College and University Librarians.

Leslie has lead morning meditations through the online platform eMindful, taught MBSR at Baystate Health System, and through an NIH grant, Leslie provided mindful awareness training in a 8 week pilot study for students at Chicopee High School in fall of 2014.

She recently completed an advanced training in Mindful Inquiry through Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA.

Leslie’s teachers include four children, her husband, and since July 2015, her first grandchild!
