Somatic Dance & Movement therapy
What It Is~
Somatic therapy combines psychtherapy with what are sometimes considered alternative forms of therapy-
Dance Therapy
Movement Therapy
Expressive Therapy
Resonance Therapy
Massage Therapy
Energy Medicine
Mindfulness
For instance, with trauma work, a somatic therapist will pay attention to any physical responses you may have once any recovered or ongoing memories surface.
Techniques such as breath-work, dance, yoga, and several other relaxation exercises are practiced.
Various ways of centering, grounding, and clearing, are used, as well, to relieve symptoms.
Who It Helps~
Somatic Therapy is especially effective for those whom traditional remedies have not been helpful. Somatic therapy can help people who suffer from:
•Anxiety, Stress, Addiction, Grief, or/and Depression.
•Relationship Issues.
•Difficulty following through on tasks and goals.
•Any issues related to Trauma and Abuse.
•Body-Image & Self-Esteem challenges.
How It Works~
Somatic Therapy comes from the belief that the mind, body, spirit, and emotions are what make a person whole.
The impact of past emotional, and sometimes traumatic events affects the central nervous system and can cause changes in the body. Such changes can be anywhere from the way in which we hold and carry ourselves, to chronic pain and eventually for some, disease.
Through mind-body awareness, using specific interventions, Somatic Therapy helps us to release those emotions that remain held in our body. My goal is to help free you from this bound energy that is preventing you from fully feeling alive and engaged with life.
